Jaja* is a contemporary circus show for the audience aged 12 and above. It lasts 45 minutes and has 2 artists with juggling as speciality on stage. In Jaja juggling meets theater, music and dance. The show is reflecting on the everchanging nature of life and people’s relationship with the change itself. We always crave change, but we are also afraid of it. Through games and circus vocabulary, Jaja invites the audience to ponder together about how it is possible to embrace the cyclical nature of life, and “play the cards we are given”.
SUITCASE at the EJC was not my proudest performance in terms of technique or aesthetics. However it was my proudest performance in terms of honesty and truth to myself. Before the summer I hadn’t been in a place mentally where I was able to do the work that I’d like to do, so an easy way out would’ve been to lean on my older technique which I know I can always bring out to impress.
I don’t want my life to be about impressing. If I’m going to impress I’m impressing myself and that’s why I’m so proud that I managed to stand in my depressive feelings and talk about where I’ve been the past year through my preferred language – juggling and movement.
Se på meg når jeg snakker til deg
Space: Anywhere Duration: 10 minutes Target audience: all
Everyday life can easily come in between us and our relationships, where we find ourselves often planning for the future or reminiscing about the past. How can we be reminded to stay present in the moment with our friends & family and enjoy what we currently have?
Performed in Netherlands Juggling Festival, miniHEPP! circus festival in Trondheim and Klinke Edru Festival.
Kunstgrillen
Kunstgrillen ensemble creates live-art performances in public and natural-urban spaces. The artists work with cross-disciplinarily scores for improvisation that interact with the chosen spaces. The project first appeared in public spaces in 2020 aiming to bring art to people in lockdown during the first wave of pandemic in Norway. The second season of the project for 2021 features 7 artists among whom there are dancers, musicians and a circus artist. You will find Kunstgrillen in motion in Rogaland.
The show has littering, pollution, climate change, and polarisation as common threads. Even though these subjects are getting more and more focus in the media, the scope of the problem is hard to grasp. In a playful way, the artists attempt to give the audience some new perspectives and awaken their curiosity through the art of juggling. Throwing and catching, giving and taking, how will we cooperate to solve humanity’s biggest challenge so far?
DROP. is a multidisciplinary creation for a violin & cello duo, a juggling duo and electronic composition. The main idea of this artistic encounter is to create a common language between music and juggling. For this, we focus our research is based on two technical elements fundamental to both disciplines: gesture and rhythm.
The spectator will see a ball juggling representation from the life of a schizophrenic person. Research has been conducted on auditory hallucinations, one of the symptoms of schizophrenia, and how this can be translated into bodily movements and juggling tricks. A mass of 20 balls fighting against a juggler on his journey to find calmness within.
Dénoué
Space: Anywhere Duration: 35min Target audience: Children
A door, a chair, a man surrounded by books. He manipulates objects tirelessly with precision. His large body and his hands construct and deconstruct a moving space. Knock knock knock, there’s a knock on the door, but no one is there… A ghost emerges, a benevolent shadow suspended in the void. She will disrupt his world and take him on an initiatory journey through a dreamlike imagination. Like any inwards journey, the man will no longer be the same, he will be transformed, ready to cross the doorstep.
With Dénoué we want to guide children to travel with us and surprise them with atmospheres that can scare as much as amaze.
L'Atelier du Plateau
L’Atelier du Plateau makes circus, Julian participated in total in 6 improvised shows over 3 years with musicians and other circus artists. Evenings where anything can happen, the artists are required to be like water, fluid and ready for change at any moment. Julian was participating with rapping, poetry, throwing balls, plastics, spoons into cups, theatre, play, yes it would be easier to mention what hasn’t happened here than what has!
